The Pontian Society “Akritai” of Philadelphia held its 86th Annual Dinner Dance on November 29 at parish hall of St. Demetrios in Upper Darby, PA, featuring vibrant performances from its youth dance group, which continues to grow each year. Children as young as three took the stage alongside older dancers, showcasing traditional Pontian steps with enthusiasm and pride. Their performance highlighted the group’s dedication to teaching and preserving Pontian dance across generations.

This year’s entertainment also included an impressive lineup of musicians from Greece – Giorgos Ioannidis, Babis Kemanatzidis, Giannis Froutis, Giorgos Petridis, and Kyriakos Papadopoulos – accompanied by local talents Christos Tiktapanidis and Babis Almazidis. Adding an extra layer of entertainment, comedian and influencer Kyriakos Karagiannidis— known as Kyriakos Kara— moved from table to table dressed as his beloved internet characters Panaila, Pini, and Xarikleia. With costume changes throughout the night, he interacted with guests, posed for photos, and brought constant humor and joy to the celebration.
More than 400 guests filled the dance floor, keeping the energy high and dancing nonstop throughout the event. During the evening, the Society also honored three past presidents—Abram Bouikidis, Prodromos Bouikidis, and Xaris Alexiadis—for their years of service and dedication. Awards were presented by Akritai President Stefanos Evangelopoulos and Board member Dimosthenis Giamouridis who emceed the event.

In addition, a donation was presented to Panagia Soumela in support of its ongoing work. The Annual Dinner Dance continues to be a cherished tradition that brings the community together, celebrates Pontian heritage, and strengthens the bonds between generations.
The Pontian Society “Akritai” of Philadelphia looks forward to continuing these cultural celebrations in the years ahead.
