The victim of a fatal shooting on Erie’s west side Monday night has been identified, with his death being ruled a homicide.

Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook identified the victim as 23-year-old Michael Mendralla of Erie.

Cook said Mendralla died from a single gunshot wound to the lower extremities and was taken to UPMC Hamot, where he later succumbed to his injury.

That shooting happened outside a residence in the 500 block of West 9th Street, with Erie police saying Mandralla tried to drive himself to the hospital.

Police have not named a suspect at this time and are asking anyone for any “suspicious” surveillance they may have of that area around that time, while anyone with information is asked to contact them or Sergeant Jason Russell, who is the lead investigator.
