DUNMORE, Pa. — Keeping with their holiday tradition, Penn State Scranton’s musical groups will be spreading holiday cheer and helping to kick off the holiday season with a special musical performance on campus.
On Wednesday, Dec. 10, the campus’ Chorale and Jazz Band will perform their annual on-campus holiday concert at noon in The View Café.
The concert will be preceded by another traditional event, the Holiday Breakfast sponsored by Student Services and Engagement, which will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., also in The View Café.
Music Director and Associate Teaching Professor of Music Sharon Ann Toman has been working with the Chorale and Jazz Band all semester and said this year’s performance definitely will be another crowd pleaser.
The Penn State Scranton Chorale will perform a number of both holiday and contemporary classics, including “It’s Beginning to Look Like Christmas,” “The Bells of Christmas” and “Fun, Fun, Fun,” as well as a solo performance of “O Holy Night” by Elizabeth Erickson.
The Campus Jazz Band will then take the stage to perform an impressive set of seasonal and popular musical pieces, including “Feliz Navidad,” “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” “Don’t Stop Believin’” and “Old Time Rock and Roll.”
“These students may not be music majors, but the level of talent and passion in their performances is impressive. It gives me so much joy to see the students enjoying their music and performance, as well as seeing the audience get into the holiday spirit,” Toman said. “The holidays and its traditions are all about music and the sharing of music, and our students and I get so much joy from sharing our music with the campus community.”
