A longtime member of Fountain Hill Borough Council is stepping down from her seat effective Friday, Dec. 5.

Annamarie Jordan read a brief letter explaining her decision to resign at council’s meeting Monday. She said that due to “mobility issues” it is now necessary for her to move to a new home that is located outside the borough of Fountain Hill.

“I’ve been here all of my life, and the borough is my family,” an emotional Jordan said. She joked that she is “only going across the bridge,” and promised the rest of council that she will “be back for everything.”

“You are really going to be missed,” council president Stew McCandless told her. “That’s a tough one for all of us.”

According to her biography on the Fountain Hill borough website, Jordan is a graduate of Allentown Central Catholic High School, Northampton Community College and Cedar Crest College, from which she earned a B.S. degree in accounting. A married mother of two, she is retired from the Finance Department of Conrail/Lehigh Valley Railroad. In addition to her service to the borough she has volunteered her time as a Bethlehem Area Public Library board member and a bereavement counselor at St. Luke’s Hospital.

Jordan’s resignation from both council and the borough’s stormwater authority will take effect the same day as her move, so borough manager Amy Burkhart recommended that council wait to formally accept the resignation until their next meeting, which will be held Dec. 17. Council has 30 days from the date the resignation takes effect to appoint a replacement for Jordan, whose current term ends Dec. 31, 2027, so the appointment will likely be made at council’s reorganization meeting in early January.

The borough is now accepting applications from residents interested in filling the unexpired council term Jordan is vacating. To apply to fill the seat, individuals must have residency in the borough for at least one consecutive year prior to their appointment and must be registered voters. To apply, residents should submit a letter of interest and their resume to Fountain Hill Borough Council, 941 Long St., Fountain Hill, PA 18015 or manager@fhboro.org by 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, 2025.

Applicants will be interviewed by council at the Wednesday, Dec. 17 meeting, which will be held at 7 p.m. in Borough Hall.

In other business, council voted to adopt a final 2026 borough budget that includes a one mill property tax increase to bring the total millage rate to 11.61 mills. Council also approved a new garbage and recycling contract that establishes the cost of those services at $540 per residential dwelling unit for next year.

The last day of fall leaf collection in Fountain Hill is this Friday, Dec. 5. Residents with leaves ready for pickup should call the borough at 610-867-0301 to schedule.

Several upcoming holiday events were also highlighted at the end of the meeting, including the annual borough tree-lighting ceremony, which will be held this Sunday, Dec. 7 at 4:30 p.m., rain or shine, across from the Fountain Hill Fire Department, 950 Cherokee St., Fountain Hill. The event will feature the tree-lighting, holiday music, refreshments and a visit from Santa.

The Fountain Hill Fire Department will also sponsor a Santa Run on Saturday, Dec. 13, starting at noon. McCandless said the route is yet to be determined. Parents with gifts they would like Santa to deliver can drop them off at the firehouse on Monday, Dec. 8 from 6 to 8 p.m., or make other arrangements by emailing santarun2025@fountainhillfire.org (all gifts must be wrapped and include the child’s name, address and a contact phone number).

Councilmen Norm Blatt and Will Rufe were absent from Monday’s meeting.
