PENNSYLVANIA (WJAC) — Pennsylvania’s state-run liquor system is reporting a slight drop in sales.
The PLCB says wine and spirits sales totaled just over $3.16 billion last fiscal year – which was down about $21 million from the year before.
The agency’s net income also fell sharply, down more than 40 percent — which was reportedly driven by higher payroll and benefit costs.
Despite these figures, the PLCB says it returned nearly $877 million to state and local governments, including more than $815 million for the state’s general fund — which supports schools, health programs and public safety.
The PLCB notes that its operations are funded entirely by alcohol sales, not taxpayers.
