ALLENTOWN, Pa. – There was a special act of kindness that took over downtown Allentown Wednesday.
One local business owner went the extra mile to lend a hand just as the holiday season gets into full swing.
Anthony Salvatore owns “JRads Wood Fired Pizza.” He rolled up in his food truck to serve a warm, homemade meal to the men staying at the Allentown Rescue Mission.
He was out there for a few hours, and residents of the Rescue Mission were able to order any pizza they wanted right from his truck.
He also made soup, focaccia, and cannolis to keep everyone full and warm while they waited for their pie to come out of the oven.
Anthony says giving back feels personal.
He grew up in downtown Allentown and remembers seeing people who were struggling.
He says he admired how the Mission helped them get back on their feet.
Anthony says he’s grateful he now has the ability to offer something simple yet meaningful.
“Today, we’re gonna give back to the community. I want to give back to Allentown, I grew up here in Allentown in the city all my life, so we wanted to do something fun, something special for the unfortunate and picked the Rescue Mission. Come down and cook for the guys,” Anthony said.
“It’s giving our men a chance to connect with the community, letting them see that people care about them,” said Stefaine Appel, with the Allentown Rescue Mission.
Anthony has been running his wood-fired pizza truck for three years. It all began when he turned a backyard oven he built with his wife into a full-time business.Â
Meadowood Community in Skippack donated the cannolis.Â
