SCRANTON, Pa. — Former Scranton Mayor Bill Courtright is set to be released from custody on Wednesday, officials say.

Courtright was sentenced back in 2020 to seven years in prison on federal corruption charges; his release on Wednesday would mark five years of his sentence completed.

He had been the subject of a multi-year undercover investigation headed by the FBI. The undercover investigation captured the former mayor accepting cash payments from vendors doing business with the city.

According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons website, Courtright is scheduled to be released on Wednesday from RRM Philadelphia, a residential reentry office, also known as a halfway house.
