PITTSTON, LUZERNE CO. (WOLF) — The Knights of Columbus in Pittston are making sure families can bundle up before winter gets worse.
Councils 372 and 16071 are teaming up to host a free coat giveaway this Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at 55 South Main Street.
Thursday, volunteers were busy preparing hundreds of coats, hoping to help anyone who needs a little extra warmth this season.
“This is a time where, just as today, it’s freezing out, so it’s only going to get worse. There are less fortunate people that just need a helping hand. We just want to make sure that we can do our best for the community and the surrounding communities to basically help them stay warm in the winter,” said Phil Bendsen, organizer of Knights of Columbus Council 372.
The groups have more than 200 coats ready to give out to children and teens at no cost.
Charity is a central mission of the Knights of Columbus, and members say they’re proud to continue that tradition as temperatures drop.
