The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission plans to host a public comment session in Wilkes-Barre later this month to gather input on a proposed rate increase that was recently requested by PPL, officials said Friday.

PPL, which provides electricity to about 1.5 million customers in 29 counties in eastern and central Pennsylvania, in September filed notice of its intention to hike its rates in an effort to generate an annual revenue increase of $356.3 million.

According to the PUC, the change would increase the total monthly bill for a residential customer using 918 kilowatt-hours from $177.01 to $189.40, or by 7%.

The PUC announced in October that it intended to investigate PPL’s request, a move that prompted it to host seven in-person and telephonic hearings to gather public input.

The session in Wilkes-Barre will take place starting at 6 p.m. Dec. 18 at Wilkes University’s Henry Student Center, 84 W. South St., in the Jean and Paul Adams Commons on the second floor.

Anyone planning to refer to exhibits during testimony is asked to email the relevant documents to Pamela McNeal at pmcneal@pa.gov by noon on Dec. 15.
