SCRANTON, Pa. – Former Scranton Mayor Bill Courtright is scheduled to be released from federal custody today, officials say. Courtright, who was sentenced in 2020 to seven years in prison on federal corruption charges, will be released from RRM Philadelphia, a residential reentry office, also known as a halfway house. His release marks five years of his sentence completed.

Courtright pleaded guilty in 2019 to charges including criminal conspiracy, bribery, and extortion. The charges stemmed from a multi-year undercover FBI investigation that captured the former mayor accepting cash payments from vendors doing business with the city.
