(WJET/WFXP)– Pennsylvania State Police have provided an update on the fatal shooting of Erie resident Marchello Woodard Wednesday evening.

According to PSP Erie, Parole agents were doing compliance checks around Erie County when they noticed Woodard sitting in a parked car in the 300 block of East 27th Street and approached him.

Police said that after the agents identified themselves, Woodard started to drive off. The agent grabbed onto the car and was dragged for an undisclosed distance and fired multiple shots at the driver’s side of the car before falling, fatally injuring Woodard.

At the time of shooting, City of Erie police were only a block and a half away and provided medical assistance before Woodard was taken to UPMC Hamot, where he was later pronounced dead.

The parole agent was also taken to UPMC Hamot for undisclosed injuries.

PSP is now investigating the shooting alongside the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, while members of their Heritage Affairs Office work with community leaders to address concerns.

They’re also asking the community for patience as they investigate, saying these types of investigations take time and are asking anyone with information to contact the PSP Erie Barracks at 814-898-1641. Callers can remain anonymous.
