Brian Shahum led the Trojans with 15 points, while Jim Bonner added 13 points and 10 rebounds. … After two seasons as a coach with the Class-A Clearwater Phillies, Greg Legg was named hitting coach of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons. … Shaun Sandy (103) and Rob Walton (119) of Abington Heights, Stuart Emerson (140) from Blue Ridge and Scranton’s Greg Hoffner (189) were individual titlists from the Lackawanna League at the Abington Heights Wrestling Tournament. … Five Lackawanna Trail players were named to the Pennsylvania High School Field Hockey Coaches Association all-state team. Laura Fitzpatrick and Johanna Fitzpatrick were chosen to the Class AA first team, while Gina Biscontini, Liz Marionni and Jennifer Lewis received honorable mention. … After two seasons at Abington Heights, Tony Donato was named head football coach at North Pocono, replacing his cousin Nick Donato.

Taryn Mellody scored 26 points and earned Most Valuable Player honors for the second consecutive year as the University of Scranton women’s basketball team defeated Frostburg State, 65-54, in the championship game of the Diversified Invitational at the John Long Center. … Laura Heck scored a career-high 16 points to lead the Forest City girls basketball team over Old Forge, 59-30, and help coach Carl Urbas earn his 400th career victory. … West Scranton wrestling coach Robbie Butka got his 100th career win when the Invaders captured all five matches at the Electric City Duals to take the team title. … Stephen Semenza hit a layup late in the fourth quarter to lift Old Forge boys basketball over West Scranton, 38-37, and improve the Blue Devils to 4-0. …  Mountain View boys basketball also started 4-0 following a 65-54 win over Abington Heights. Rob Johnson scored 25 points to lead the Eagles, who never trailed in the game.

Honesdale boys basketball won its fourth straight Finan Memorial Tournament by defeating Carbondale Area in the final in overtime, 60-54. Ian Langendoerfer scored 28 of his 30 points after halftime for the Hornets. … Logan Bailey had 37 points to lead Scranton Prep past Hazleton Area, 79-75, in a nonleague boys basketball game. … Bishop Guilfoyle scored the final 30 points to defeat Old Forge, 43-13, in the PIAA Class A football semifinals, ending the Blue Devils’ season at 13-2. Jaret Horn had a 79-yard punt return and Cooper Califano a 5-yard run to account for Old Forge’s touchdowns. … Scranton had four individual champions as the Knights took the team title for the second consecutive season at the Lackawanna League Wrestling Championships. Jacob Burgette (132), William Evanitsky (120), Bobby Zelinski (106) and Jeremiah Oakes (126) all won titles for Scranton. … After the Pittsburgh Penguins fired Mike Johnston as head coach, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins coach Mike Sullivan was promoted to replace Johnston. Jay Leach was named interim coach of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
