(WTAJ) — The Pennsylvania Game Commission Northwest Region offered congratulations for the biggest bear kill reported in 2025.
Hunter Nate Miller headed into Moraine State Park in Butler County the weekend of Nov. 22 before daylight broke. After a quiet morning watching squirrels, he claimed to have entered a bowl in the terrain where he almost immediately spotted a massive black shape roughly 60 to 80 yards away, the commission said.
Miller fired from his Remington 721 .30-06, only for the bear to vanish from his sight. According to the commission, Miller found evidence of blood and then spotted the bear, having rolled into a nearby depression he couldn’t see from where he fired from.

Miller had to rely on friends and family to help get the bear to the check station in Venango County. The PA DCNR joined in with ATVs to help in the final stretch. The bear ended up weighing 717 pounds and measuring 7 feet 5 inches from nose to tail.
“An unforgettable day, an incredible harvest, and a memory that will last a lifetime. Well done, Nate,” the game commission added in their Facebook post.
