The Scranton fire department struggled with the fire due to issues with the water supply.
SCRANTON, Pa. — A home was destroyed after a fire broke out in Scranton.
Members of the Scranton Fire Department were called around 5:45 p.m. Sunday to the 3200 block of Cedar Avenue.
The flames tore through the property as crews battled the blaze.
Daniel Hallowich from the Scranton Fire Department spoke on some of the difficulties of fighting the fire.
“Unsuspectingly, we knew that this area that we’re going to have to get a secondary water supply, so that took us a little bit of time. Once we got the secondary water supply going, we were able to deploy a couple of additional lines on the fire and prevent it from going any further,” said Hallowich.
One man lived in the home, but was not there when the fire started.Â
Officials say the Red Cross and family members are assisting him following the fire.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
