A small gathering in Scranton dove into the city’s retail history through Daniel Packer Jr.’s new book, exploring the legacy of two iconic department stores.

SCRANTON, Pa. — On Sunday, A small crowd gathered at the Lackawanna County Historical Society in Scranton to take a trip back in time through the lens and words of scranton native and author Daniel Packer Jr.’s new book, highlighting the Globe Store and Oppenheim’s Scranton Dry Goods Company.

The two department stores operated in the city for decades before closing in the 1980s and 90s. 

A bygone era of shopping, Packer’s Book looks to tell the history of the two businesses that once dominated the retail market in the Electric City.
