SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — A fire tore through a home in Scranton’s Minooka neighborhood on Sunday, leaving the structure heavily damaged and displacing its one resident.

Fire crews were called to the 3200 block of Cedar Avenue, where they arrived to find the house fully engulfed in flames. Despite the intensity of the blaze, no injuries were reported.

Scranton Fire Chief John Judge said firefighters faced challenges securing water when they first arrived. “We did have water issues initially as the first hydrant was on a small main and didn’t provide the volume we needed, so crews quickly hooked into another hydrant that provided a better water supply,” Judge explained. “The fire was pretty progressed when we arrived on scene.”

The homeowner was not inside at the time of the fire and lives alone, officials said. Because of the extensive structural damage, a structural engineer is expected to assess the building.

Chief Judge added that the cause of the fire remains undetermined due to the severity of the destruction.
