READING, PA. – The United Way of Berks County is sealing its legacy in the region.
The non-profit is closing out its 100th anniversary year by planning for the next 100 years.
The Berks County Commissioners and the United Way gathered for a special time capsule ceremony today.
They buried a capsule filled with mementos and letters from current volunteers to the next generation.
Organizers say no matter what changes over time, the mission will always remain.
“This sense of that we are better as a community when we collectively work to make everybody’s life better and and great and help healthy, happy and, you know, just in a really good place,” said Tammy White, president of United Way Berks County.
As part of the 100th year celebration, The United Way also planted a white oak tree in the spring and honored the memory of Irv Evans, one of United Way’s longest-serving volunteers.
