JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WTAJ) — A citizen of Honduras was sentenced to federal prison after being found in Pennsylvania after already racking up three deportations out of the U.S.
First Assistant United States Attorney Troy Rivetti announced the sentencing of 67-year-old Jose Mejia-Sarmiento. A sentencing that will see the Honduran serve 39 months in a federal prison before being deported based on his conviction of illegal reentry by a removed alien and fraudulent use of a Social Security number.
Mejia-Sarmiento was recently found in western Pennsylvania, despite being removed from the U.S. three times between 1996 and 2016, according to information presented to the court.
Mejia-Sarmiento also made false statements to the Social Security Administration on at least four different occasions in 2024 and 2025 by using the ID of another person, Rivetti added.
