NEDERLAND — Wesley Methodist Church is once again telling the story of the birth of Jesus in their Journey to Bethlehem production.
The free play will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. nightly Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the church, 3515 Helena Ave., Nederland. Performances are held every 30 minutes and seating is available.
Director and church member Jessica Noles said the production is part of the church’s ministry and is something they have done for well over 30 years.
“This is something our church is very passionate about and all of the folks involved absolutely love doing this,” Noles said. “It’s something to bring to the community to show them the real reason for this season.”
The set depicts various scenes from the Biblical journey to Bethlehem complete with the manger.
Noles said the cast includes anywhere from 50 to 70 people on any given night.
The set also features animals including a camel, donkey, sheep and goats and those who visit can pet the animals, have their photo taken and more.
After the production there is a Children’s Market where children are given “gold coins” for free that are used to purchase small items such as bead necklaces or fun activities.
Noles grew up attending Wesley then moved away for 20-plus years. Her family recently relocated to the Mid County area and began back at Wesley as it was her church home.
There are now four generations, with my children, to be involved in this church. It’s very special to me,” Noles said. She was involved in the ministry as a child and now, as an adult to be involved, she has come full circle. “And getting to see my children (participate) is a blessing.”
The church also has a Prayer Garden that will be open for anyone interested in prayer as an individual, or to have someone to pray with or to be prayed over.
