SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Geisinger Community Medical Center now has the opportunity to expand its services in Scranton.

Scranton City Council voted Tuesday night to approve zoning changes that will allow the hospital to expand across the street on Colfax Avenue to help with overcapacity issues.

Geisinger plans to construct a new building for extra clinical services, additional inpatient beds, as well as more parking, and a bridge connecting the main campus.

The vote comes after people living in the hill section opposed it, over concerns of their quality of life. After two hours of public comment, the council voted yes.
