PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – From coast to coast, festive parades usher in the holiday season with vibrant performances and dazzling decorations.

To determine which events offer the best and most festive experiences, USA Today asked a panel of experts to nominate their top picks for holiday parades throughout the U.S., then readers voted for their favorites.

Philadelphia’s beloved Mummers Parade earned a place among the best, taking not only a top ten ranking but securing the number one spot.

The Mummers Parade is one of the longest-running traditions in the nation — the first parade took place in 1901 as a celebration of the new year.

The colorful procession along Broad Street features performances by comics, string bands, and fancy brigades in spectacular costumes.
