The local police are requesting any help with their investigation into a fatal hit and run in the city of Erie. Anyone with information should contact Sgt. Dunmire at (814) 870-1171.
At around 6:53 p.m. on Dec. 9, a call to the Erie Police Department came in about a 66-year-old man who had been struck by a vehicle on West 8th and Liberty.
The man appeared to be riding a bicycle, but this has not yet been confirmed by police. The victim’s name has not yet been released to the public.
The victim, a white male, was rear-ended while on his bicycle. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:50 p.m. at UPMC Hospital.
The vehicle involved fled eastbound on West 8th St. The vehicle is described as an SUV but the color and make is uncertain at this time. The SUV will have front bumper damage, hood damage, and possible windshield damage.
