Two women were killed, and another was critically injured in the stabbing Tuesday night at the Jermyn Apartments, police say.
SCRANTON, Pa. — Authorities have identified the victims of a brutal stabbing Tuesday night in downtown Scranton.
The Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office says Linda Fortuna, 61, and Terry Muller, 59, were killed in the stabbing at the Jermyn Apartments. Muller’s golden retriever service dog, Nayla, was also killed.
A third woman, identified as Marilyn Waller, 66, was seriously injured in the attack and remains hospitalized in critical condition, officials say.
Police say the suspect, Michael Woods, 38, attacked the women with a machete on the sixth floor of the apartment building along Biden Street.
Woods was taken into custody as he left the building along Biden Street.
At a press conference on Wednesday, District Attorney Brian Gallagher said Woods moved to the Jermyn Apartments in 2020 from Jersey City, New Jersey.
He remains locked up at the Lackawanna County Prison, charged with two counts of criminal homicide, one count of attempted homicide, two counts of aggravated assault, and one count of cruelty to animals.
He is due back in court on December 23.
