During the weekly press conference for Erie Mayor Joe Schember, Erie police chief Dan Spizarny released the third quarter crime statistics. The city continues to see a decline in violent crime in 2025.
According to Spizarny, over the last four years the Erie Police Department has had a 100 percent clearance rate on homicides, which stands above the national average of 52.3 percent.
Shots fired calls through the third quarter this year are down by 24, as compared to this point in 2024. The number of people shot in the city has also decreased from 13 to 9 at the same point last year.
The city has had five homicides through three quarters of 2025. A sixth homicide transpired at the beginning of December.
The number of homicides in the city is less than half the ten-year average of 10.4 over the last decade.
