James D. Kellenberger Sr.
OBITUARY
James D. Kellenberger Sr., 87 years old, a father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, and uncle, passed away peacefully in his Fleetwood residence Saturday, December 6, 2025.
Born October 29, 1938, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Robert Kellenberger Sr. and Hilda (Neff) Kellenberger.
James was a 1957 graduate of Reading High School, worked for OB Sweater Dyers for 14 years before becoming a firefighter for the Reading Fire Department for 36 years. James was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #62 in West Reading. During his free time James had a strong passion for trains and enjoyed collecting Hess trucks. He also enjoyed going to the Fairgrounds Market spending time with his friends where they would enjoy eating food and telling stories.
Surviving are two children, Kathy (Kellenberger) Quell, widow of Robert of San Tan Valley, AZ, and James Kellenberger Jr.
Also surviving are five grandchildren: Kristen, wife of Jason Stone of Denver, PA; Laken Keehner, of Denver, PA; Ryne McDonald, of Denver, PA; and Brendan McDonald, of Bad Langensalza, Germany; and Sean Kellenberger of Williamstown, PA.
He leaves behind six great-grandchildren: April; Ashby; Aria; Leon; Jeffery; and Benjamin.
Four siblings are surviving: Frederick Kellenberger of Kenhorst; Eleanor Frey of Boyertown; Edwin Kellenberger of Reading; and George Kellenberger of Mohnton.
James was predeceased in death by his first wife, Lillie (Focht) Kellenberger, and his second wife, Diane Sweitzer-Kellenberger. As well as one granddaughter, Meghan McDonald.
He was also predeceased by nine siblings: Robert Kellenberger Jr.; Doris (Kellenberger) Nicoletti; Richard Kellenberger; John Kellenberger; William Kellenberger; Ruth (Kellenberger) Engle; Thomas Kellenberger; and Patricia (Kellenberger) Washington.
A service will be held Friday, December 12, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. Laureldale. A viewing will take place prior from 10 a.m. at the same location. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park.
