Former Lackawanna County Commissioner Patrick O’Malley received the John Mitchell Memorial Man of the Year Award on John Mitchell Day in October at the memorial service celebrating the impact of the late John Mitchell, former president of the United Mine Workers of America. O’Malley was honored for his union involvement. He is a former member of the Teamsters Local 229, AFSCME, and the Scranton Federation of Teachers and is a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 81. The John Mitchell Memorial Service was made possible by the Ancient Order of Hibernians Paul “Hook” O’Malley Division Four.
