Rain will continue Monday in the Lehigh Valley as a nor’easter continues to slam coastal areas of New Jersey and Delaware.

Showers are expected through the morning and again later in the day, according to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey. Up to half an inch of rain is possible.

Rain should stop by early Tuesday, and the next several days should be sunny and cooler.

Forecasters said possibly one of the coldest air masses of the season may affect the area Thursday and Friday. A high of 60 is predicted for Thursday, followed by a high of 63 for Friday. However, low temperatures are likely to dip into the 30s.

The weather service said a warm front will come to the region Saturday, causing highs to get closer to 70. Another system could come to the area that night, with a possibility of showers.

The coastal storm, which came to the area over the weekend, has not had any major impacts on the Lehigh Valley. Roughly a tenth of an inch of rain was recorded Saturday and Sunday in the region.

Wind speeds appeared to top near 30 mph over the weekend, while areas well south of the region, near the coast, had recorded max wind speeds of more than 50 mph, according to weather service data.

Rainfall has been somewhat limited recently in the Lehigh Valley. The past few months had below average rainfall, according to the weather service. The U.S. Drought Monitor, which tracks and displays drought conditions in the country, listed most of Lehigh and Northampton counties as “abnormally dry.”

Northeastern Northampton County and a small part of northern Lehigh County are under moderate drought conditions.
