Due to a traffic accident that has closed southbound traffic on I-279, the Pittsburgh Penguins delayed Thursday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens to 7:30 p.m.

The original start time was 7 p.m.

Reports indicate the accident involved an overturned tractor-trailer. I-279 is currently closed as of publishing (6:10 p.m.) between I-79 and Camp Horn Road. The truck was carrying steel coils. There were no reported injuries.

At least one player was delayed by the gridlocked traffic, arriving well after the 5 p.m. deadline. Others were likely delayed or caught in traffic as well.

The arena still opened the gates at 6 p.m. for fans.

The Penguins have points in seven of their last eight games, but have lost the last two games in a shootout after losing late leads when their opponents scored with an extra attacker.
