A winter storm watch is in place this weekend for Erie County and Crawford County.

The National Weather Service in Cleveland said heavy lake-effect snow and gusty winds are in the forecast for locations including Corry, Erie, Edinboro, Union City, Meadville and Titusville among others. Single-digit temperatures and wind chills to minus 1 also are forecast in some locations.

Here’s what to know about the severity and timing set out in the watch.

Winter storm watch in Erie, Crawford counties

The watch will be in effect from Saturday, Dec. 13, at 7 a.m. through Monday, Dec. 15, at 1 a.m.

Heavy lake-effect snow is possible, with total snow accumulations of half a foot or more in the most persistent bands of snow.

Winds could gust up to 35 mph and produce blowing and drifting snow.

Erie-area weather forecasts

Erie: The weather service forecast calls for 2 inches to 4 inches of snow Dec. 13, an additional 2 inches to 4 inches of snow the night of Dec. 13 and 2 inches to 4 inches more snow Dec. 14. The low temperature Dec. 13 will be around 15, and the Dec. 14 low will be near 18.

Additional, lighter snow remains likely through the night of Dec. 15.

Edinboro: Look for new snow accumulation of an inch to 3 inches Dec. 13, and an additional 3 inches to 5 inches of snowfall that night. Another 2 inches to 4 inches of snow is possible Dec. 14 and an inch or two the night of Dec. 14.

The low Dec. 13 will be around 11, but the wind chill could be as low as minus 1.

Corry: Expect an inch to 3 inches of snow Dec. 13, another 2 inches to 4 inches the night of Dec. 13 and 2 inches to 4 inches more Dec. 14.

The Dec. 13 low will get to around 9, with a wind chill value as low as minus 1. The Dec. 14 low will be near 11.

Meadville: Anticipate new snow accumulation of an inch to 2 inches Dec. 13 during the day and 2 inches to 4 inches more that night. An inch to 3 inches more snow is possible Dec. 14 and the same again that night.

The Dec. 13 low will be near 12, with wind chill values as low as zero. The Dec. 14 low will be around 15.

Warren County also is under a winter storm watch, according to the weather service in State College.
