Two pedestrians are hospitalized after being hit by a vehicle in Scranton on Thursday, according to the Scranton police department.

Officers were called to the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Mulberry Street at about 5 p.m. on a report of a vehicle that struck two people.

Police arrived in the 400 block of Harrison Avenue and found the vehicle involved in the incident and a man and woman injured in the crash. The couple was first treated at the scene and then taken to Geisinger Community Medical Center, with serious injuries.

Investigators determined the vehicle was northbound in the 400 block of Harrison Avenue, when it hit the two pedestrians. After interviewing witnesses and reviewing video surveillance, officers found the man and woman were standing in the eastbound portion of the roadway when they were struck.

The Scranton Police Highway Unit Supervisor and the Pennsylvania State Police CARS Reconstruction Unit conducted a full forensic reconstruction.

As of Friday afternoon, the two remained in the hospital.

“This remains on active investigation and updates will be released at a later time,” the release concluded.
