A working fire alarm helped alert other residents to get to safety this Friday.
Chief Fire Inspector Don Sauer says the fire started when a resident was lighting a candle in his apartment around 10:30 this morning. The fire is being called “accidental.” A minor explosion was also triggered when rubbing alcohol spilled into an electrical outlet.
The wheelchair-bound resident and his home health care worker were taken to the hospital. They are okay, but the apartment unit they were in is currently unlivable.
Erie firefighters extinguished the fire in about five minutes at the Erie Housing Authority building on Davison Avenue.
