SPRING TWP., Pa – Some folks from The Giant Company rolled up their sleeves today to help those in need.

Volunteers converged on the Helping Harvest Fresh Food Bank in Spring Township where they packed hunger relief boxes and helped to organize and restock shelves.

Giant also donated 200 hams.

Helping Harvest says the donation comes at a time when the need is great.

“We’re coming off the federal government shutdown and also the state budget impasse that lasted for quite some time. And it’s the holidays, so families feel that extra pinch,” said Jess Umbenhauer, COO of Helping Harvest Fresh Food Bank

The food bank set a record in October, distributing more than one million pounds of food.

Helping Harvest serves both Berks and Schuylkill counties.
