BERWICK, Pa. — WNEP’s Home and Backyard show recently took a charming visit to the historic Jackson Mansion in Berwick, an exquisitely restored estate that offers special tours for the holiday season. This year’s house tour features a Pennsylvania Dutch and German Christmas. The tour offers guests a trip back in time, walking through opulent rooms filled with authentic Pennsylvania Dutch and German antiques, each piece more fascinating than the last. The mansion’s centerpiece during the holiday season is an elegant tree adorned with vintage kugel ornaments, dating back to the mid-1800s to early 1900s. These glass ornaments, crafted in Germany, shimmered in the soft light, and really showed the grandeur of Christmas in the mansion.
The show also featured beautifully decorated trees with delicate die-cut ornaments, a cotton tree, and, of course, a stunning collection of Belshnickles, traditional German figures known to carry a switch to be certain the children were behaving for Christmas. The entire tour was nothing short of magical, with each room highlighting the mansion’s perfectly placed authentic decorations. The tour includes a peek at the gingerbread room, an amazing collection of nutcrackers perfectly placed throughout Mr. Jackson’ s room and the lovely faith filled displays in Mrs. Jackson’s room.
A unique stop on the tour was the basement kitchen, where a tree was decorated with vintage cookie cutters. Our lovely tour guide shared intriguing New Year’s lore, offering fascinating tidbits about New Year’s traditions from days gone by. The tour at the Jackson Mansion an unforgettable holiday experience.
