HARRISBURG — The Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission announced grants to four area cultural institutions Friday.

The Everhart Museum in Scranton received $25,000. The historical societies of Lackawanna, Luzerne and Wyoming counties each received $9,000.

At the Lackawanna Historical Society, that’s a welcome $1,000 more than expected, said Director Mary Ann Moran-Savakinus. The annual grant comes to the society routinely and is accounted for in the $185,000 budget for 2026. It will be used for general operating expenses.

The money is part of nearly $4 million given to 177 historical societies and museums in 59 of the commonwealth’s 67 counties. The grants go toward the general operations of museums and historical societies that are not supported by other state agency funding programs and meet certain size requirements.
