LEESPORT, Pa. – A Berks County community is rallying around a teenage boy this holiday season as he battles brain cancer.
Family, friends and neighbors came together on Saturday night at Union Fire Company Number-1 in Leesport for “A Very Riley Christmas.”
The Christmas and superhero–themed event raised money to support 13-year-old Riley Rejniak.
He’s been battling Stage-4 neuroblastoma since kindergarten.
The doctors now say his cancer is chemo-resistant and his body is shutting down.
Riley’s dad says that despite the devastating news, he’s grateful for the support.
“I mean, this county has been behind us since day one and has followed his journey, so to see the outpour of people say that they’re just as devastated, as terrible as it is, it’s extremely heartwarming to the rest our our family,” said Greg Rejniak.Â
Event organizers say they also do a 5K fundraiser for Riley every year at the Schuylkill Valley School District.
