An 80-year-old woman out for a morning walk was killed in a crash near the intersection of East Lackawanna Avenue and Adams Avenue at about 7 a.m. Friday morning, according to Olyphant Police Chief James DeVoe.

The operator of a Jeep Compass was southbound on Adams Avenue when he failed to stop at a stop sign before continuing onto East Lackawanna Avenue, police said. That operator then hit the side of a truck driving east on East Lackawanna Avenue, who had legally stopped at the stop sign before driving through the intersection.

The impact of the crash pushed the truck on top of the woman, who died at the scene.

Police have not yet released the names of the victim or the drivers.

Police and firefighters rushed to the scene,  found the Jeep on fire and quickly extinguished the flames.

DeVoe said an autopsy is planned for next week and further information will be released at that time. Pennsylvania State Police are also investigating the fatal crash, he said.
