A mainstay for cool treats in downtown Nazareth could soon change hands.

Emily’s Ice Cream, 100 S. Main St., went on the sales block Oct. 10, according to online commercial real estate listings.

The 3,700-square-foot building is being listed for $224,900. The sale includes the business and all its contents and equipment, as well as a three-year lease, according to the listing.

The reason for the sale is the pending retirement of owner Patricia Rice, the listing states.

Emily’s Ice Cream originally opened in 1987 in a shopping center along Nazareth Pike. In May 2014, it relocated to the borough’s downtown in a renovated Civil War-era building.

Emily’s was named after the original owner’s daughter. For nearly 40 years, the shop has been known for its cozy atmosphere and more than 24 handmade flavors.

Some old favorites have included butter pecan, mint chocolate chip and cherry vanilla. More modern choices include tandy cake, brown bread, and leprechaun crunch.

Other menu selections include soft ice cream flavors, a variety of sundaes, milkshakes and banana boats. Guests also enjoy “earthquakes,” which typically include several scoops of ice cream flavors and a mix of rich toppings. Think hot fudge, marshmallow, caramel, nuts, whipped cream, and cherries.

Regulars snatch up customized cakes, in which they can choose beyond the basic chocolate and vanilla flavors and standard crunch topping in between the layers. Patrons can change things up with peanut butter cups, sprinkles and candies between ice cream layers and customize colors.

Hours for Emily’s Ice Cream are from noon to 10 p.m. Sunday to Saturday. The shop closes earlier in the winter, according to the business’ website.
