The teenager fatally shot inside a Scranton residence on Friday was identified as Dylan Smith, 16, of Taylor, Scranton police announced Monday in a news release.

On Friday, officers were dispatched to 1337 Bryn Mawr St. for a reported shooting victim and found a juvenile male with a gunshot wound, police said.

Police began life-saving measures before transporting Smith by ambulance to Geisinger Community Medical Center, where he died from his injuries, officers said.

During the investigation, detectives determined the firearm used in the incident was reported stolen from Archbald Borough two weeks earlier, police said.

Detectives interviewed three juveniles on the night of the incident, and they detained one juvenile on a felony charge of possession of a firearm by a minor, officers said.

The shooting was an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the public, police said.

An active criminal investigation remains ongoing, officers said.

Anyone with information regarding the incident should contact detectives by using the Scranton Police anonymous tip line — scrantonpa.gov/police-online-services/ — or by calling 570-348-4134, police said.
