HOLIDAY CLOSURE: All SVSD schools will be closed from Friday, Dec. 19 to Sunday, Jan. 4. Classes resume on Monday, Jan. 5.

SVES HONORED: Saucon Valley Elementary School was recently named a “Best Elementary School” by US News & World Report.

SVSD HOLIDAY SPIRIT WEEK: Dec. 15-19 is Holiday Spirit Week at SVES. Monday is Winter PJ Day, Tuesday is Holiday Hats/Socks Day, Wednesday is Ugly Sweater Day, Thursday is Grinch Day and Friday is Candy Cane Day (red and white attire).

SCHOOL BOARD MEETING: There will be a Saucon Valley School Board meeting Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. in the high school LGI (Large Group Instruction room). The first board meeting of the new year will be held Tuesday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. Board meetings are normally held the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.

SVHS SCHOLASTIC SCRIMMAGE TEAM: The SVHS Scholastic Scrimmage team is prepping for another exciting season of televised quiz shows. More than 30 Lehigh Valley high schools participate in the competition, which is aired locally by PBS39 WLVT-TV. Saucon Valley’s first appearance will be vs. Catasauqua High School on Sunday, Jan. 11. Broadcasts air Sundays at 9:30 a.m., Tuesdays at 7 p.m. and Wednesdays at 5 p.m. Episodes are also available later for on-demand viewing online.

SVMS WHAT’S SO COOL ABOUT MANUFACTURING: Middle school students are turning up the creativity, and the color, this season with this year’s “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?” video contest. Recently, participants had the exciting opportunity to visit the Crayola Factory to film their contest video. Voting for the annual contest opens in March.

SVES HOLIDAY DECORATING CONTEST: The winners of Saucon Valley Elementary School’s first-ever door decorating contest have been announced. Most Festive was awarded to Ms. Mickey, Most Creative went to Mrs. Picketts, Best Overall was won by Mrs. Johnston and Best Hall was won by Third Grade. Organized by SVES administrative assistant Calista Unger, the contest encouraged staff to transform classroom doors and their collective grade hallways into festive holiday displays.
