Jane Frances Lucas Kapinus

OBITUARY

Jane Frances Lucas Kapinus, affectionately known as “Baba,” passed away peacefully with family by her side on Thursday, December 11th, 2025, at the age of 98. She died at Elan Skilled Nursing Facility in Scranton.

Jane was the wife of the late Bernard Kapinus. She remained steadfastly devoted to him throughout their 65 years of marriage, until his passing in 2020.

To her family, she was their cherished Baba – a radiant presence who ensured every visit included laughter, delicious food, and, inevitably, an ice cream cone. She loved getting her daily dose of chocolate. She was an avid churchgoer and dedicated member of the choir at St. John Vianney Parish. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, watching hummingbirds, and spending time with her great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving sister, Loretta. She was preceded in death by her brothers John, Daniel, Adam, and George Lucas, and her sisters Mary, Anna, Olga, and Dorothy. Baba’s legacy continues through her devoted children: Linda (Will) Smith of Georgia, Gerald (Sharon) Kapinus of Montdale, Stephen (Loujean) Kapinus of California, and Mary (Frank) Pizzimenti of California. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Kimberly (Paul) Kaschak, John (Ashley) LaRosa, Crystal (Allan) Ross, Loujean (Daniel) Potter, and Stephen (Hedi) Bruno; and her nine great-grandchildren: Sheridan, Sloane, Shelby, Isaac, Hunter, Luca, Jack, Leo, and Rowan.

The family offers heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kenneth Sebastenelli, Dr. Tracey Galardi, and the 4th-floor staff at Elan Skilled Nursing Facilities, especially Nell, Naomi, Barb, Sharon, and Leah for their care, and deep gratitude to her granddaughter, Kimberly, for the devoted care she provided Jane for several years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 19th, at 10:00 AM in St. John Vianney Parish at Corpus Christi Church, 704 Montdale Road, Scott Township, PA. Friends and Family may call Thursday, December 18th, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the Robert E. Decker Funeral Home, 702 River Street, Peckville, PA.
