After nearly four decades serving the Erie community, Pony Express will be closing at the end of the year.

If someone walks into Pony Express, they will find reduced prices signs and empty shelves, two things owner, Dave Grab was never expecting. According to Grab, “We weren’t anticipating, having the business close, neither was the community. There has been an outpouring of sentiments and well wishes and sad feelings for the fact this business that has been in business here for almost 38 years is bittersweet.”

He’s trying to make the best out of these last few weeks, offering discounts and taking the time to listen to customer’s fondest memories.

“Customers have expressed they have been coming here for 30 years. Their mother came in here, their kids came in here, a lot of fun good stories have been shared”, said Grab.

After changes with the postal service and a sale that didn’t go through, Grab wishes things didn’t end like this, but he is looking forward to retirement and is thankful that he played a part in serving the community for decades.

“A lot of memories have been shared in the past couple of months in regards to us closing. A lot of sentiment, a lot of unhappy customers as far as that is concerned but it’s what needs to be done”, said Grab.

People can still mail letters, buy stamps, and ship packages through FedEx and UPS.
