Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of a fire in Dormont. The fire was reported shortly before 5 a.m. Wednesday on the 2600 block of Broadway Avenue. The renter of the home told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 he woke up to the power not working in his room. After a quick search, the family inside realized there was a fire in the attic. Everyone got out safely, but two cats are missing. “The fire is all contained in the attic. So, we’re hoping that just, a couple cats that are hiding once we can get in there and do a better search,” Dormont fire chief Jeff Stakich said. Chief Stakich explained the snowy conditions posed as a challenge for crews. “The house is on a hill. You know, we have to throw ladders. We have to get the hose up the hill. We have to rehab. We have to come out and break all of our equipment down. So this is the time of the year that fighting fires is one of the most challenging.”Crews from around the area, like Mt. Lebanon, Green Tree and more responded to the scene. Chief Stakich said manpower was crucial when battling the blaze, and it kept the fire from moving to a two-alarm fire. He said it is possible the cause is an electrical fire, but the fire marshall is investigating.
