HOLIDAY CLOSURE: All SLSD schools will be closed Saturday, Dec. 20 through Sunday, Jan. 4. Classes resume Monday, Jan. 5.

ACT 44: In November, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro signed Act 44 of 2025, amending the Public School Code to require direct notification to parents/guardians and school employees when a student is found in possession of a weapon on school property, at a school-sponsored activity or on school transportation. The new law takes effect Jan. 5, 2026. A letter from SLSD superintendent Dr. Karen Trinkle explaining its implications in further detail is available online. “Because of the law’s privacy restrictions, schools are not permitted to share any details beyond the legally approved message,” she wrote to parents on Dec. 8. “We want to proactively inform you in advance why these notifications may be brief and limited. The intent of the law is to give timely notice while protecting student privacy and ensuring districts follow consistent statewide procedures.”

NOW HIRING: The SLSD invites prospective applicants to apply online for the position of part-time food service worker. Apply online for other positions via the district’s employment portal.

SLHS FOOTBALL PIAA 4A CHAMPIONS: The district celebrated the Spartans’ first football state championship with a parade and medal ceremony in Coopersburg Saturday. Congratulations, Southern Lehigh!

SLMS PEAK: The middle school’s latest PEAK activity brought students together after school for a festive and fun challenge–creating delicious gingerbread houses. It was an awesome afternoon of teamwork, creativity and sweet holiday spirit.

FULL DAY KINDERGARTEN: Southern Lehigh Full Day Kindergarten Registration for the 2026-2027 school year opens Feb. 1, 2026. Learn about the new Full Day Kindergarten program and what is needed to register a child on the district’s website.
