Last week residents had difficulties involving heating issues at St. Joseph’s Apartments. Residents said they’ve gone more than a month without heat in hallways and even some units as colder nights move in.

The CEO of Housing and Neighborhood Development Services talked about what’s being done to resolve these issues.

Matthew Good with HANDS relayed that the agency is aware of the heating problems and is actively working with property management to address them as quickly as possible.

As temperatures drop, concerns are growing for residents at Saint Joseph Apartments who are dealing with ongoing heating problems. Matthew Good, CEO of HANDS, said addressing the issue has been an urgent priority for the organization.

Good also shared additional concerns residents have brought to their attention, including an ADA lift that has been out of service. He explained that the broken boiler is a more complex issue than simply purchasing a replacement.

Last week, resident Anna Marie Malizia, who said she was given only one month to move out, after which her rent was raised. She claimed she was told the increase was due to her age. When we spoke with Good, he shared a different account of the situation.

According to Good the organization determines which residents are relocated and how rent prices are set.

“So, as your household income changes, either up or down, that determines the amount subsidies.”

He also said a replacement heater is expected to arrive within the next couple of weeks. He added that if residents are having maintenance issues, they can call 814-453-3333.
