READING, Pa. – A Philadelphia man has been found guilty of killing two teens during a shooting incident at a Reading gas station.
Berks County District Attorney John Adams says Nyjee Jefferson was found guilty of first and third-degree murder and related offenses following a jury trial that began this week.
The incident took place in February of 2022 at a Getty Mart on West Greenwich Street in Reading and involved Jefferson and another Philadelphia man.
An interaction between the two parties took place inside the store and shortly after, gunfire erupted outside leaving both José Ventura-Jiménez and an unnamed 17-year-old dead.
Jefferson was taken into custody later that same morning in Philadelphia on an outstanding warrant after he turned up at Children’s Hospital with a gunshot wound.
DA Adams said at the time of Jefferson’s arrest that all three individuals involved in the shooting were in possession of guns illegally.
Online court records do not list a sentencing date for Jefferson at this time.
A first-degree murder conviction in Pennsylvania carries a mandatory life sentence.
