A Scranton man faces a felony charge after attacking a state constable with a knife during an eviction, according to a criminal complaint.

City police charged Aniello Martoccio, 41, of 420 Adams Ave., with aggravated assault and possession of a knife following the Monday incident.

According to the criminal complaint:

Police officers were called to Martoccio’s apartment at about 11 a.m. for the report of a man who had barricaded himself inside the apartment, armed with a knife.

Officers found Martoccio sitting with his back to his apartment door so it could not be opened.

State Constable Charles Warrick told officers he had been sent to the residence for an eviction.

Warrick said when he attempted to enter the apartment, Martoccio cut him twice — once on the knuckle and once on the arm.

Officers spoke with Martoccio, who repeatedly said he was going to jail. Ultimately, Martoccio threw the knife into the hallway.

Police secured the weapon and moved in to arrest Martoccio.

Martoccio resisted and reached into his pocket, prompting an officer to deploy his Taser.

Officers then took Martoccio to the ground and put him in handcuffs.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Dec. 29 before District Judge Joanne Corbett.

Martoccio remains at the Lackawanna County Prison without bail.
