BANGOR, Pa. – A Northampton County man has turned his yard into a little section of Whoville.
Market Street in Bangor is now the exclusive domain of Mr. Grinch.
Mike Weil started collecting them and displaying them about 7 years ago. He has about 50 Grinches of all sizes.
And while the Grinch is a threat to Christmas, Friday’s wind is a threat to the Grinches!
If the Grinch, is the Mean One, then Mike Weil is the nice one.
“I own everything that’s grinch at this point. It all started in high school. I played the Grinch in “Seussical the Musical”,” said Weil.
The collection stands at 50 Grinches and growing. There’s a modicum of Maxes, and a few Cindy Lous, but most of the grass is covered in Grinch.
“Everybody asks me why I have so many Grinches. It’s my alter-ego actually,” Weil said.
Grinchin’ Ain’t Easy.
“The Grinch is that character no one thought was a good person, but he has a heart that grew three times. And it’s just something I kind of bond with,” Weil explained.
The Grinch is Christmas’s the biggest threat.
But the biggest threat to Mike’s Grinches are the gusts of wind that blasted Bangor Friday afternoon.
The inflatables shook and swayed like the Grinch thundering down Mount Crumpit.
Mike held them steady, tying them down, like all those sacks of presents on the Grinch’s sleigh.
“I love it because there’s a sense of community. The community loves it,” said Weil.
The display is located at 524 Market Street in Bangor.
