Homeowners should help police catch vandals
Regarding the vandalism done to the Lights in the Parkway display in Allentown’s Lehigh Parkway: There should be security camera coverage of much of the area where the lights are displayed each year. Also individual homeowners may have video on their security cameras showing the perpetrators to facilitate arrest efforts of police. If you live in the area, give it some thought. Those causing this senseless vandalism need to be held accountable.

GOP reps flip-flop on health care subsidies
It is no secret that the Democratic Party is targeting the seats now held by Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick and Ryan Mackenzie, both Republicans, in next year’s election. It is amazing how in 10 months a lot can change. Ten months ago, both were in full support of President Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” which did not extend the American Care Act health insurance subsidies. To his credit, Fitzpatrick did vote against the final passage, but that was mainly symbolic, as it already had enough votes to pass.
Mackenzie on the other hand was more in lock step with the party line, damn the constituents. All of a sudden, Fitzpatrick introduced a bill to extend the tax credits and Mackenzie pushed for an 11th hour compromise. Where was all this concern earlier? Nothing has changed, except this little off-year election, which had a slightly blue look to it. Some politicians stand for nothing, and fall for everything.

Tired of Shapiro, others badmouthing administration
So President Trump and Vice President Vance both visit Pennsylvania and all Gov. Josh Shapiro can do is not show up and complain about them. So sad and childish. However people have a right to protest in this United States as well as they have a right to disagree and express their thoughts. Sometimes it becomes tiring but not ever impossible.
However, in my opinion, the last administration made a mess and we are told not to notice. The Trump administration is trying to clean it up and getting blamed as if it was the one who created the mess. Wake up, people. Donald Trump is our president, watch and see what he does.

Business column is well written
I thoroughly enjoyed the article written by Tony Iannelli and totally agree. Yes, the internet and social media has many benefits, but nothing can replace a face-to-face meeting. Bonding over a breakfast or lunch cannot be replaced by a text. Thank you, Tony Iannelli, for a well written article.

Trump is ignoring economic concerns
Back in April, when the rising cost of groceries became a stark reality for most Americans, President Trump spoke about groceries as if he just discovered the word for the first time, calling it an “old-fashioned word” and “a bag with a lot of different things in it.” Sounds like a guy who has never bought a loaf of bread or a gallon of milk, right? So we should forgive the president for continuing to insist that the affordability crisis affecting not just groceries, but also rent, utilities, clothing and holiday gifts, is a hoax, a fake narrative promulgated by the Democrats and the liberal media. Has nothing to do with his tariffs of course. This is pure gaslighting.
He came to Pennsylvania last week and, instead of acknowledging the issue, showing a smidgen of compassion, he dredged up his old campaign trail attacks on his enemies, immigrants and the media, and blamed everything negative on Joe Biden. In a couple of weeks, millions of Americans will likely face catastrophic cost increases for health insurance. Make America Healthy Again, indeed. If Trump and his sycophants can’t even acknowledge there’s an affordability problem, how will they ever be able to solve it?

Not extending credits will hurt Mackenzie, Bresnahan
U.S. Reps. Ryan Mackenzie and Rob Bresnahan both won their districts by the slimmest of margins, by riding Donald Trump’s coattails. Now they want to start walking back what they’ve done since being in Congress. After both voted for the One Big Beautiful Bill, and kissed the ring of the king, they want to help try to extend the credits for the Affordable Care Act before they expire at the end of the year. Before it got to this point, they both had the opportunity to work with Democrats during the government shutdown to come up with a solution. They know not extending these credits is going to have a negative effect on a lot of their constituents. Come the November election, they’re both looking like “one termers.” There’s an old saying, “You made your bed, now lie in it.”

Mackenzie shows hypocrisy on health care issue
We feel it is quite hypocritical of Rep. Ryan Mackenzie to show concern now about health care premiums when he was quite happy to vote for the Big Beautiful Bill, which did not extend the subsidies or engage in any meaningful effort to lower health care costs. Large numbers of people without insurance drive up premiums for everyone else and Republicans’ unwillingness to improve the current system is likely to reduce the number of insured. Now that he sees his constituents are hurting from the increases in health insurance he suddenly has changed his tune. He’s motivated by self interest rather than the welfare of his constituents. Vote him out in 2026.
