Junior Brendan Carr scored a career-high 28 points to lead the University of Scranton men’s basketball team to an 89-77 win over Ursinus College on Friday at the York Spartan Classic.

Carr scored 17 of his points in the second half when the Royals outscored Ursinus, 57-45, to break a 32-32 halftime tie. Scranton shot 61.5 percent from the field (16 for 26), including 6 of 10 from 3-point range, in the second half.

Nick Ruisi had a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds for the Royals (8-1). Sammy Tornabene added 15 points and Abington Heights grad Will Marion contributed 10 points. Jon Spatola handed out seven assists.

Jamie Murphy led Ursinus (5-3) with 23 points. Dallas graduate Nick Nocito scored eight points and Scranton Prep graduate Brycen Martin also played for the Bears.

Scranton continues play in the York Spartan Classic on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Nazareth University.

Wrestling

At Wilkes-Barre,  the University of Scranton competed at the Wilkes Open on Friday.

Lucas Griffin had a pin in 4:38 at 133 pounds in the round of 32 before being eliminated in the round of 16. Charles Kitching had a pin in 2:10 at 174 pounds during the consolation round of 16.
