Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Devin Bush was found not guilty on charges of simple assault and harassment stemming from an incident with his girlfriend in Bell Acres, Pennsylvania.
Court records obtained by PennLive show that prosecutors failed to prove that Bush had intent to injure his girlfriend in the incident.
Police responded to an incident in May at his home in the Pittsburgh suburb of Bell Acres, and his girlfriend stated Bush took away her car keys.
In the initial report, Bush’s girlfriend says he chased her around the house after she began recording him with her phone. Bush pinned her against a massage table and then smashed her cell phone.
She told police Bush then looked for her iPad and stole her car keys so she could not contact anyone. The girlfriend and her daughter fled to a neighbor’s house, where they called the police.
Bush denied to police that he got physical with his girlfriend but professed he did smash her cell phone.
Police discovered cuts on the girlfriend’s wrist and right foot, along with smashed pieces of her cell phone.
However, police were not able to prove that Bush ever meant to harm the woman, which brought on the acquittal of all charges on Bush.
Bush grew into his role in the NFL after not sticking the landing as the 10th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
The Steelers traded up for Bush in that class, hoping he would cure their ills at the position. Yet, a torn ACL in his second year derailed what looked like a promising start to his career.
Bush had 109 tackles in his rookie season, a career-high. He had nine tackles for loss, two interceptions, and four fumble recoveries.
He has put together a breakout season with the Browns in 2025, posting 93 total tackles over the course of the season.
